Preparing for pumpkin spice latte season (aka fall)

CodeWord blog - laptop - writing tips

Fall is not so bad. The only reason this season fails for me is because it follows my favourite season of summer. I love hot weather, so I’m sad when that cools and I have to start pulling on my sweaters at night. Ever an optimist, I try to find something that does get me excited, and that is fall planning. I do like to dream about what I will accomplish in the fall, how I’ll be able to help new clients, and think up plans for meetups and new projects. Here are a few ways I start in August to plan for September:

Reach out to my colleagues

Whether it be clients I’ve worked with earlier in the year, or work friends with whom I can talk shop without apology, this is the time to reconnect (so be warned!). Yes, I’m nerdy enough to make a list, then email and remind colleagues that I’m available for projects or coffee or zoom meetups. Making plans for September gives me something to look forward to as the evenings shorten.

Revisit my new year’s goals

Another fun part of September is that we all get to go back to school. Remembering the smell of freshly sharpened pencils, the intrigue of new connections and projects. It’s almost a second new year, which is why I like to pull out my resolutions from January and see where I’ve gotten, what I want to double down on and what I can let go of. I also think about one or two new goals for the fall season, both in my business and in my life.

Make the most of the end of summer

The end of summer reminds me that summer’s not over yet, so I also think about how to make the most of this nice weather that often extends right through September. What projects from the summer can I wrap up so I feel that sense of accomplishment? What can I tidy up around my business so that I’m ready for the next season (hello website, social media calendar, blog post batching) Can I make plans for one or two last patio hangouts just to enjoy being outdoors?

How are you planning the rest of your summer while preparing for fall? Hope this reminds you to make the most of this time!
